In West Holland's branch of the family we have not one but two world-class mountain climbers.

Robie Vaughn made his mark in history when he summited Mt. Everest's south side on May 18, 2007 at 7:15 a.m. local time.  Mt. Everest is the highest mountain on Earth.  It is part of the Himalaya range in Asia, located on the border between Nepal and Tibet, China.  By the end of 2006, there had been 2, 062 individuals to summit the mountain, and more than 200 deaths.  In 2007, there were over 500 summits and 6 deaths.  Climbers are a significant source of tourist revenue for Nepal, whose government requires all prospective climbers to obtain an expensive permit, costing up to $25,000 USD per person.  A report about Robie's climb is on MountEverest.net.  His place in the Holland tree is that he married the great-granddaughter of West Holland's 10th child, Ransome Beauregard Holland, Winifred Fallon Browning.

Jence Cornelis Holland Feuquay was the first woman to climb Mt. Shasta, California.  Mount Shasta is a 14,179-foot stratovolcano.  It is the second-highest peak in the Cascade Range and the fifth-highest peak in California.  She was the 11th child of West Holland, born August 26, 1863, in Pinkney, Wayne County, North Carolina.
