| Nova Scotia | Researching the Holland family of Duncan's Cove and Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada. The oldest record we have been able to find is the marriage of James Holland to Elizabeth Jackson at St Mary's Basilica, Halifax, on October 20, 1827. The parents of the groom were Jeremiah Holland and Johanna Tardy of Halifax, NS, and Richard Jackson and Jane Lyons of Dartmouth, NS. Their sons went on to be famous Halifax Harbour pilots. One of the sons, Jeremiah, was the son-in-law of Jock Flemming, another famous pilot of the 1800s. We do not know where the family originated, possible Cork Ireland.
