Della and Bud, as David A. West was called, were on their way to the preacher's house to get married, in his buggy, when they encountered the preacher along the way on Lower Meigs Road. They stopped and he married them right there, at the corner of Lower Meigs Road and Stage Coach. Bud purchased the corner lot, built a house there, and they lived there the rest of their lives. The property is now owned by Della Holland and David West's youngest child Earl West and his youngest child Stacy West, who currently lives in the "home place." He was listed on the 1860 Colquitt County, Georgia, census with his parents, Wiley
N. and Diadoma, and his siblings. He was listed as a 5-year-old
male, born in Georgia. He also appears on the 1870 Colquitt County
census, at age 15. He married Dora I. [last name unknown] around

Holland, 21, both presumably sons.

6. John Holland was born about 1868 in Colquitt County, Georgia. He may have died between 1870 and 1874, which would help one understand another child being named John in the same family. This first child of Wiley and Elizabeth, named John, was listed on the 1870 census for Colquitt County, Georgia, at age 2. By 1880, he was not listed but another child who was born in 1874 and named John Thomas had been added to the family, leading me to think that this John Holland had died.

in Colquitt County, Georgia. Dora was born 25 August 1883, in
Mitchell County, Georgia, daughter of Allen Sherrod Cutts and Artie
Wiggins. She has a sister and a brother who also married into
this Holland family: Pennellie
Cutts married Forcian's brother John Thomas Holland; and
George Allen Cutts married Lucy May
Holland, daughter of Henry Harrison Holland and Louisa Tison. Enos and Eli Holland's branches merged with the marriage of

F. Holland's daughter Louisa married Henry Harrison Holland.

In 1880 he was listed as the 4-year-old son of Wiley Holland and wife Elizabeth, living in the Bridge Creek District of Colquitt County, Georgia. They were living at the time with Wiley's brother's family. He is listed in the 1900 census of Colquitt County with his parents at age 24. He married Cora Jackson on 21 February 1904, in Colquitt County, Georgia.
11. Lenora (Sarah) Holland was born in June 1878 in Georgia. She is listed in the 1900 census of Colquitt County with her parents at age 21. Her name was listed as Sarah; previously she had been listed as Lenora. She married Harmon Henry Holland, son of Julius Hawkins Holland and Susan Palmer; he was her first cousin once removed.

He is listed in the 1930 census for Colquitt County, living in Hartsfield Township with his wife Margaret. He was 47; she was 29. He died 4 December 1949 in Georgia, at age 68.

1883, in Colquitt County, Georgia. He married Leslie Britt in
Colquitt County. He is listed in the 1920 census for Colquitt
County, living in Hartsfield Township, age 36; with his wife Leslie,

died 27 August 1928. They are both buried at Liberty Hill Cemetery in Colquitt County.
Children of Nelson S. Holland and Leslie:
1. Ambrose Holland was born about 1915 in Colquitt County, Georgia.
2. Lonnie Holland was born about 1918 in Colquitt County, Georgia.
4. Elizabeth A. Holland was born in November 1827, in North Carolina. She married Elijah Fields. Their family is listed on the 1860 census of Colquitt County, Georgia, as dwelling 42, family 27. Elijah Fields is 26, a farmer born in Georgia, and Elizabeth Fields is 31, born in North Carolina. Children Thomas J. Fields, 4, and Mary J. Fields, 1, are living with them, both born in Georgia.
In 1870, this family is again listed on the Colquitt County, Georgia census. Elijah Fields is 36, a white farmer, and Elizabeth is 43. Children Thomas J., 14; Mary J., 12; William, 8; and Chase (unclear) are listed with them, along with Lucinda, a white female age 38, without occupation and born in Georgia.
In 1880 they are still in Colquitt County, Georgia. Elijah is 45, Elizabeth is 51, Mary J. Fields is 20 and attending school, and William Fields is 19. Thomas J. Fields is living next door to them with his family.
In the 1900 census for Colquitt County, dated June 27,
1900, Elizabeth A.
Fields is widowed, head of household, 72 years old, and living in
Militia District 1538 of Hamilton Township. Her brother
Thomas Holland, age 70, is living with
her. Both are listed as feeble
under occupation, which I presume is what we would now call retired.
In other words, they did not have an occupation to list because they
were both old.
Child of Elizabeth Holland and her Fields husband:
1. Mary J. Fields was born est. 1850. She married Benjamin Holland 16 January 1881, in Colquitt County, Georgia. He was her 1st cousin, the son of Wiley N. Holland and Diamema or Piadama Wood.12 Their line is followed in Benjamin's family.
5. Thomas Holland was born in August 1829, in North Carolina, according to the 1900 census of Colquitt County, Georgia. He was listed in that census living with his sister Elizabeth A. Fields, who was head of household and 72 years old. Thomas Holland was 70 years old. Since this census is the first time we encounter Thomas Holland, I am uncertain as to whether he is another child of Eli Holland and Edith Hood, or whether he is the same person as John Thomas Holland listed above, who married Maria Hutton. The problem with deciding they are the same person is that John Thomas Holland who married Maria Hutton appears on two censuses -- the 1850 and 1860 -- and both place his birth at around 1821 or 1822. I am going to consider for now that Thomas Holland is another child of Eli Holland and Edith Hood and that he is a different person from John Thomas Holland who married Maria Hutson. This is subject to change upon evidence to the contrary. It is possible that Thomas Holland did not marry and therefore has no marriage record and no family to list on censuses. Perhaps he moved around a lot like his father Eli did. If this was the case, it makes it a reasonable scenario that he would be living with his widowed sister at age 70, as shown on the Colquitt County census of 1900, rather than with his children.
6. Lucinda Hawkins Holland was born 2 September 1834 in Johnston County, North Carolina. She married Adam Adams in Colquitt County, Georgia, around 1852. Adam Adams was born 8 November 1833, in Georgia, and died 24 December 1919, in La Casa, Stephens County, Texas. Lucinda died 4 September 1921 in Red Springs, Baylor County, Texas, at age 87.34
Lucinda Holland appeared on the 1860 census of Mitchell
County, Georgia, with her husband Adam Adams. He was 26 and born in
Georgia; she was 25 and born in North Carolina. They were listed with two
children: James H., age 5, and Mary E., 1. In 1870, they appeared
again on the Mitchell County census at ages 35 and 36, with children James
Ansil, 15; Thomas, 9; Charles, 2; a Eli Holland Adams, a 3-month-old baby
born in March. Eli Holland, age 78, was living with them. He
was listed as a P. B. M. (Primitive Baptist Minister, presumably), born in
North Carolina.

being 31, along with his wife Jimmie Lou, 28, and their son Banie Joe, 1 year
and 3 months. He died 4 March 1941 in Fitzgerald, Ben Hill County,

2. Mary E. Adams was born in 1859 in Georgia. She was listed on the 1860 census for Mitchell County, Georgia, with her parents, 1 year old. She was not listed with her family in the 1870 census; presumably she died between 1860 and 1870.
3. Thomas L. Adams was born in Georgia in 1861. He was listed on the 1870 census in Mitchell County, Georgia, with his family. He was 9 years old. In 1880 he appeared on the Stephens County, Texas, census, along with his parents, and Eli and Tennie. He was 19.

be 10 years old, born in North Carolina. On 23 December 1903, at the age
of 33, he married Sarah Novella Eveline Smith. Sarah was 19. She

About this History
My father's people came from Wayne County, North Carolina. Although I live in Alabama now, I inherited his love of our heritage. So it is with love for him and admiration for his strong desire to preserve our history that I dedicate my part in compiling and maintaining this Holland Family History and Tree to my father, Louis Lea Holland
