2. Eli Holland was born 25 February 1792 in Wayne County, North Carolina.  He married Edith Hood on 21 December 1816 (1817?), in Wake County, North Carolina.40  Edith was born ca. 1798. They are included in the 1830 and 1840 censuses of Johnston County, North Carolina.  They moved to Georgia between 1845-1850, and lived in Baker, Mitchell, and Colquitt Counties.  Eli Holland and his wife Edith are listed in the 1850 Thomas County (now Colquitt County), Georgia, census at ages 58 and 52, along with children Wiley, Elizabeth, and Lucinda, ages 26, 23, and 15.  He was a Primitive Baptist minister, and preached for a time at Hopewell Baptist Church in Mitchell County, Georgia.

In the 1860 census of Thomas County (now Colquitt County), Georgia, Eli was listed with his wife Edith and two other persons in the household.  Record of one child of Eli and Edith, Mary Ann, has been found, in Pioneers of Wiregrass Georgia, Volume 3, page 155. Edith died between 1860 and 1870 and was buried in Baxley, Appling County, Georgia.50   By the 1870 census, Eli was living with his daughter Lucinda and her family in Mitchell County.  Eli died shortly before 27 October 1870, in Mitchell County, Georgia at age 78.  Adam Adams was the administrator of his estate.  Baker and Colquitt County courthouses were burned and almost no estate papers remain.

Children of Eli Holland and Edith Hood:

If anyone can add any information on the family and descendents of Eli Holland, it would be a welcome advance to this line of the Jimmie Holland Family.

About this History

My father's people came from Wayne County, North Carolina.  Although I live in Alabama now, I inherited his love of our heritage.  So it is with love for him and admiration for his strong desire to preserve our history that I dedicate my part in compiling and maintaining this Holland Family History and Tree to my father,

Louis Lea Holland
