5. Joseph Walter Holland was born 25 December 1883. He died 17 February 1901 at age 17. Walter is buried at Elisha Holland Cemetery on N.C. Highway 581 north of Pinckney, Wayne County. There is a picture of his grave in the Album section of this web site.

6. Lou Ella (called Ella) Holland was born 26 December 1885, died 1927 at about age 44. She is buried in Smithfield, North Carolina. Ella married Edward J. Sasser. See picture.

7. David Holland was born 2 February 1888. On 20 January 1911 in Greensboro, Guilford County, North Carolina, he married Emma Lea Bryant who was born 29 April 1894 in Monroe, Amherst County, Virginia, daughter of Richard S. Bryant and Florence. They were divorced after 1915 and before 1918. Emma married 2nd Henry Rogers Gaddy, born 20 June 1885. They lived in Tampa, Florida and had two children, Jack Gaddy (born 1918) and Dorothy Gaddy (261-28-4151), born 14 February 1919; died 26 June 2009 Odessa, Hillsborough County, Florida. Emma died of cancer 11 July 1964 and was buried in Myrtle Hill Memorial Park in Tampa, Florida 14 July 1964. Henry Gaddy (262-07-6018) died 5 November 1973 in Tampa, Hillsborough, FL 33612.

David Holland worked in the Seaboard Hotel in Hamlet, North Carolina around 1913-1916. His two sons, Louis and Curtis, lived for awhile, after their mother Emma left, with David's sister Ella. They also lived with "Aunt" Lizzie and "Uncle" Nathan Barnett of Pikeville (no relation). Lizzie (b. 4 November 1886, d. 20 July 1974) and Nathan (b. 17 May 1886, d. 20 September 1944) Barnett are buried in the Pike Cemetery located in Wayne County on the Pikeville-Princeton Road about 3 miles west of Pikeville, North Carolina.

David Holland, a resident of Johnston County, married 2nd Bessie Owens of Fountain, North Carolina, daughter of N. C. Owens and Weltha Webb. She was born 15 November 1894. They obtained a marriage license in Wayne County, North Carolina and were married 4 April 1918, in Goldsboro. He was 29 and she was 23.

By the 1920 census, David's family was living at 126 South John Street, Goldsboro, Wayne County, North Carolina. David Holland was the proprietor of the McAlphin Hotel and his “household” consisted of the following:

David Holland died 30 October 1932, at age 44, and was buried in Fountain, North Carolina. Bessie Owens died 12 August 1979. She was buried in Wayne Memorial Park on U. S. Highway 117, Goldsboro, North Carolina, next to her husband David who was moved from Fountain and reburied there on 20 May 1952 in grave location 1C, 251, #4. 1. Louis Lea Holland was born 17 February 1912 in Alta Vista, Virginia. He died 8 January 1976 in Wilmington, Delaware and was buried in Richmond Memorial Park in Hamlet, North Carolina. He married Iris Boyette Bellamy on 17 May 1939, in Ahoskie, Hertford County, North Carolina. She was born in Ahoskie on 31 August 1912, the daughter and only child of Zebulon Vance Bellamy (born 18 July 1887, died 23 June 1962) and Annie Elizabeth Boyette (born 5 August 1892, died 19 August 1972) of Ahoskie. Annie Elizabeth Boyette was the daughter of Annie Elizabeth Parker (born 12 March 1865, died 5 April 1946) and John Pledger Boyette (born 11 October 1860, died 30 May 1932) of Ahoskie, Hertford County, North Carolina. Iris Bellamy died 25 August 2001 in Greenville, North Carolina and was buried beside her husband in Richmond Memorial Park in Hamlet, Richmond County, North Carolina. Louis Lea Holland was a pharmacist in a drug store he owned in Hamlet, North Carolina. His obituary may be found in the Public Records section of this web site.

1. David Louis Holland was born 31 October 1940 in Hamlet, North Carolina. He married 1st Janis Colbert in 1961. She was born 14 July 1942, the daughter of Thomas Samuel Colbert Colbert and Janette Chanault. David Louis Holland received B. of Pharmacy degree from UNC and worked for Burroughs-Wellcome in Greenville, North Carolina, for many years. David and Janis divorced in 1989. He married 2nd Anna Ruth Beard on 16 February 1990. Anna was born 17 July 1942. Janis married 2nd Robert Lee Mallard III on 9 May 1992. He died 6 April 1998 in Greenville, North Carolina, at the age of 55.

1. Jana Elizabeth Holland was born 5 June 1971, and was adopted by David Holland and Janis Colbert. Jana married Brian Christopher Watkins, son of Pam and William Watkins, on 23 November 1996 in Greenville, North Carolina. 2. Louis Colbert Holland was born 3 May 1974, and was adopted by David Louis Holland and Janis Colbert. Louis married Eve Belanger on 28 January 2009, in Greenville, North Carolina. He makes his home in Plymouth, New Hampshire, and at D Acres organic farm and educational homestead in Dorchester, New Hampshire. Dean, Inc., one of the nation's premier engineering and integration firms specializing in complex electrical, electronic, and telecommunication systems, headquartered in Dulles, Virginia, and serving the northern Virginia and Washington, DC area. He lived in Ashburn, Virginia, and worked in Germany for two years, since December 30, 2005. He currently is a contractor for ITT in Iraq.

Roy Smith, Jr. married Nawal Bekkali in Khemisset, Morocco on 12 December 2007. Nawal was born 14 January 1984, in Khemisset, Morocco, the oldest daughter of Abderrahim Bekkali (b. 1 January 1961, in Khemisset, Morocco, son of Omar Bekkali) and Malika Bouirik (b. 1 January 1964, in Khemisset, Morocco, daughter of Hammou Bouirik). 2. Trevor Holland Smith was born 29 September 1970, in Wilmington, Delaware. Trevor was married on 7 March 1992, at Faith Lutheran Church in Eustis, Lake County, Florida to Brandy Jean Buchholz. Brandy Buchholz was born 8 March 1970, daughter of Gary H. Buchholz and Margaret A. (Peggy) Buchholz. Gary and Peggy Buchholz also had children Virginia M. Buchholz and Shawn W. Buchholz. He married Elizabeth Carnes on 4 August 1942 who was born in Whiteville, Columbus County, North Carolina 26 February 1916, daughter of John Luther Carnes and Lena M. Janie died 29 July 2006, at WakeMed in Raleigh. North Carolina. She was 81. She was buried 31 July 2006, at Wayne Memorial Park in Goldsboro, North Carolina.
